Important Information

Become part of the team that makes IDLA possible!

Our instructors are Idaho certified educators that meet the Federal Standards for "highly-qualified". Most of our online instructors have master's degrees, doctorate and/or additional education certifications. In addition, our instructors and principals have practical experience as working professionals in online educator, technology, alternative schools, and districts across the state.

What's in it for you?

Whether you're working full-time in a school, attending school, working as a stay-home parent, or retired... the part-time nature of IDLA jobs make it possible to combine with numerous career circumstances.  In addition to earning supplemental income you'll have the opportunity to help Idaho's youth achieve their educational goals and reach personal potential.  You'll also experience the satisfaction of making a positive impact to young adults.

IDLA allows you to teach and reach your students online any time of the day.  Teaching for IDLA easily accommodates your full-time employment or personal schedule; you get to network with peers, sharpen your skills, and reach students who are eager to gain knowledge.

  • IDLA courses are offered in 9, 12 and 16 week formats - All classes, regardless of length contain the same curriculum.
  • Sessions begin in January, March, June, August, September, and November.
  • IDLA session dates provide flexibility and a variety of scheduling options for instructors.
  • New IDLA instructors begin with a course developed by Idaho teachers - with lesson plans, discussions, tests, assignments, labs all "ready to go."  This ensures consistency among classes and frees the instructor to focus their energy interacting with the students.
  • Part-time instructors are expected to spend at least 10 hours per week/per course.
  • Course assignments and work load depend on availability, need and experience.
  • IDLA instructors are paid up to $140.00 per student in their course, and can earn an additional $25.00 per student bonus based on exceptional teaching.
  • Idaho Digital Learning rewards instructors who go beyond the minimum requirements of the job by using a "bonus rubric" as a tool for evaluating instructors' performance.  The practices promoted by the rubric represent the performances of student-centered instructors who "go the extra mile" - this is a pay for performance system!

Professional Development

All new IDLA instructors are required to attend IDLA's Annual Summer Training in June.

  • New instructors are introduced to Blackboard and IDLA procedures.
  • A variety of workshops and training sessions are held on technology, online education, and updated procedures.
  • The summer training is eligible for 1 continuing education credit from Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) or Boise State University (BSU).

In addition to the June training, IDLA provides online training to new instructors.

  • New intructors participate in a 3-week "Intro to Online Teaching" course and an 8-week "Teaching for IDLA" course during the summer months prior to teaching in the Fall.

  • These professional development courses are also available for 1 credit each through NNU.

All IDLA instructors participate in one Professional Development course each year.

  • This three-week class (1 university credit optional) is offered several times throughout the school year to give instructors several session-times from which to choose.
